Castle of Karytaina The castle dates back to the 13th century. Kapsia Cave Multicolored stalactites adorn the 330 meters of trails that are branched inside with impressive lighting. The cave appears to have been inhabited by humans during the Neοlithic era and has been designated one of the ten most important caves in Greece. Ancient Gortyna Right next to the shores of Lousios, 4 km from the village of Atsicholos, the archaeological site of Gortyna houses the thermal baths and the sanctuary of Asclepius, while a bit further, 2.5 kilometers from Atsicholos, there are the ruins of the Acropolis. Ancient Lykosoura The "oldest city of the world," at least according to Pausanias' description, could only be - this as well- in Arcadia. The holy city of Arcadia, founded by Lycaon, the son of Pelasgus, is about 12 kilometers from Megalopolis. Inside the archaeological site is the homonym Museum, which hosts findings from local excavations. 18 kilometers outside of Lykosoura, you will visit the temple of Lykaios Zeus, at the top of Mount Lykaion. Monasteries in the Lousios Gorge The most famous of all Philosophi monasteries - old and new - the less popular Monasteries of Timios Prodromos and Kalamiou and the about 25 orchards that surround Lousios are almost all carved in the rocks.
