If you fancy a break from the sun, Kastania land cave is about as spectacular as it gets. It is ranked as the second-best cave of its kind in the entirety of Europe thanks to its huge diversity of stalactite and stalagmite formations in all sorts of shapes and colours. The cave is very close to the village of Kastania and to Neapoli in Laconia.
When you arrive at the entrance to the Kastania cave site, you’d never guess that you are only a few steps away from a fantastic world! Scientists tell us that nature spent 3 million years creating this amazing site, so take your time and enjoy it to the full.
The land cave is 3.5 km from Kastania near Neapoli and once you go inside you’ll be greeted by a wealth of stalactite and stalagmite formations in all sorts of shapes and colours. It’s little wonder that this cave is ranked as the second of its kind in all of Europe.
Let your imagination run free and you will see "fountains" and "sheets", an "octopus", "corals", some "baby elephants", "mushrooms", "birds", "exotic plants" and various other fantastical creatures. The cave’s main permanent inhabitants are a blind and deaf species of cave cricket.
The cave covers 1,500 sq.m. and it is divided into two levels.
The walk through the cave is half a kilometre long, and you’ll be so impressed that you’ll be telling your friends and family about it for years!
