In Leonidio, the capital of Tsakonia, one of the most spectacular and unique Easter traditions in Greece takes place. Every year, on the night of the Resurrection, over 1,000 flaming hot air balloons are released into the sky, offering a breathtaking spectacle that will stay etched in the memory of all who witness it.
As the "Christ is Risen" is heard from the five churches of the town, the locals prepare the balloons, soaking them with oil and petrol. With a graceful movement, they launch them into the sky. The sight of balloons rising from all the town’s parishes creates an atmosphere full of colors and light, sweeping across the entire area.
The Night of the Hot Air Balloons in Leonidio is truly a one-of-a-kind experience, and it is not to be missed!
